Had Podium 3 MotoGP Qatar, Why Then Pol Espargaro So Down? Blame Honda!

Pol Espargaro's performance after the 2022 MotoGP completed eleven races was so disappointing.

In the latest series in the Dutch MotoGP at the Assen Circuit some time ago, the Repsol Honda racer was unable to participate due to injury.

The episode above adds to the bad track record of Aleix Espargaro's younger brother in MotoGP 2022. Now he is slumped in 17th position in the standings with 40 points and has never finished in the top five in the last nine races.

What's wrong with Pol Espargaro ? Even though the performance of the driver was quite impressive in pre-season. He even finished third in the inaugural Qatar MotoGP race.

Pol Espargaro Opens Up

Pol Espargaro also opened up about the decline in performance after the Qatar MotoGP race. According to him, the problem he experienced was a combination of several things.

"Yes, I was frustrated. In Argentina (second series) I fell in fourth place. Then everything came together: a fall, a technical problem, an injury, I had to give up," said Pol Espargaro.

"Of course I also feel ashamed and even if the bike is not fast, at least you have to be the fastest on the bike," continued the Spaniard.

Not Motor Factor

The question also arises, what has changed on the Honda RC213V after having brought Pol Espargaro to the Qatar MotoGP podium finish?

Pol Espargaro said that there were actually no drastic changes to the motorbike. He specifically highlighted the changing characteristics of Michelin tires.

Now the problem is that Honda can't adapt to Michelin's tire changes.

Honda Fails to Adapt Tires

"Ban is something that doesn't depend on us, we don't know it. It's not a criticism, I don't want it to be interpreted that way, it's a fact, straightforward and simple," Pol said.

"Tires are one of the components of the motorcycle that we cannot control. The character of the tires can change 100 percent."

"It's not blaming Michelin. But Honda's fault for not being able to adapt to the existing tires like other teams. Because basically, tires are the same for everyone," he added.

Holiday

MotoGP 2022 is on holiday. The new racers will return to asphalt in the 12th series of the British MotoGP at the Silverstone Circuit.
